Abstract
This article examines the influential role of culture as a construct within German educational discourse. It analyses conceptual foundations, the role of the nation-state, and the evolution from “pedagogy for foreigners” to contemporary migration and difference-sensitive pedagogy. The aim is to outline the professionalisation of teacher training within an increasingly pluralistic society.
